Angela was, to put it simply, a Great Caribbean. Her very deep commitment to the region, her extraordinary altruism, her amazing stoicism in the face of personal tragedy, her remarkable generosity of spirit, her willingness to invest her indefatigable energy in public causes in which she believed, the genuine modesty with which she acknowledged the expressions of appreciation she received from those of us who had the privilege to collaborate with her, are some of the many qualities of her character and personality that epitomize her greatness. I had the privilege to collaborate closely with Angela during the late 1980s, when she was Director of Functional Cooperation at the Caricom Secretariat and I was Unesco Representative to the Caribbean. Even at that early period of her life and career, more than thirty years ago, I considered her a role model for the Caribbean. Angela's passing away is a tremendous loss, not only for the Caribbean, but for the international community as a whole. The greatest tribute that Caricom citizens can pay to Angela is to consider her an example of what a dedicated and socially committed Caricom citizen could achieve for the common good, and allow their own actions to be inspired by her example. Angela, you will always be remembered by those who knew you. Mervyn Claxton
