I pay tribute to her. To her caring, her respect and love for her fellow human being and God's earth. Mrs. Cropper lost her husband, mother in law and sister in law in a gruesome murder in 2001 in Cascade. Yet she staunchinlgy defended the right to life of those found guilty of their murder. Of one of the killers Mrs. Cropper said that "she was glad Pitman (one of the accused) was able to secure his stay of execution in time and would now be able to take his appeal to the Privy Council". She further stated “I think the death penalty is a step too far. It is too irreversible, too definitive, too absolute,” Cropper said yesterday. “I do think that people should pay some penalty for what they do, when they injure society, but I think that should stop short of taking their lives.” Such was the selfless character of the Mrs. Cropper. I never knew her personally but always admired her determination to stand up for what she believed in. May she rest in eternal peace, secure and comfortable in the love of those who have gone before her and all of those left behind saddened by her passing but strengthed by the nobility of her ideals.
